Sexual Addiction ….or NOT?

…..I have refrained from writing on this subject for quite some time, but enough is enough! Tiger Woods and Jesse James, the examples of the hour, have left little to be said for their behavior, yet they have managed to dupe their wives, fans, and the reading public into thinking that their behaviors is excusable by utilizing one simple word…. sex addiction. While not a big fan of rehabs, I am appalled to see that one can be treated for such a …. condition?!?
However, I am realizing that this new fad of blaming adultery on a disability of sorts may be playing in all our favors. If I may have previously held back when presented with the opportunity of falling into the arms of one other than the one I am committed to, I no longer have to sacrifice the moments of pleasure possibly offered by a handsome stranger. Not only can I now justify this behavior to my self, but if I am caught, I can easily spit the term “sex addict” from my lips into the face of my lover and expect something greater than immediate forgiveness, I can expect sympathy, a hug, and a drive to the nearest rehab.
Have we all gone mad? Magazines on every newsstand are filled with delicious details of male indiscretions and its affect on their families, but all I am seeing is a terrible trend. I don’t argue that sex addiction exists as I am sure some are greatly affected by it, but I am quite sure that everyone claiming the disability isn’t actually affected by it. If we accept sex addiction as a legible excuse that can be utilized to save one’s ass, then we will have to soon agree to much more than an excused affair and a quick trip to a treatment facility……

What do you say?

It’s more than that. It’s because every behavior and every what-used-to-be “norm” has become so equivocal that no one is held accountable for their actions. When an actor/celebrity cheats, they are treated as a complex, flawed, fragile human being who “needs to take time to reflect.” Reflect on what? Just call it what it is – you fucked up. It’s not a product of a decease, it’s a product of losing all sense of right and wrong, being wrapped in your stardom and truly believing that the rules, legal, social, moral or otherwise, don’t apply. It’s not a sexual addiction, it’s narcissism pure and simple. Dr. Drew Pinsky wrote an excellent book on this. Of course the rest of us, the poor shmucks who don’t have the luxury of apologizing on national tv, have to quietly suffer from our sexual addiction which in our circles is commonly referred to as “being an asshole.”

Our country currently has a disability for everything. In European countries children didn’t have ADD, OCD, IEP etc., and somehow were able to obtain a higher education and locate suitable employment. However, in the US we label everything, therefore there’s always an excuse: “Oh I have ADD and can’t work as I lack focus” or “My child cannot take the test because they have an IEP”, and of course “I cheated not because I am a fuckup but because I have an addiction which removes my member from my pants and inserts it into another person who was accidentally passing by. (I am not arguing that disabilities do in fact exist, but I am arguing that we over diagnose everything!)
And I must add…why the hell do all the magazines, even those for which prior to this BS I had respect, present on their cover the picture of an individual who has strayed? Do I care if Tiger Woods cheated on his wife with a dozen different women? All I care about is if he can handle a golf club (at most). Poor Tiger Woods has such a serious case of sexual addiction that he didn’t seek help until he had cheated well over twenty times. Personally I don’t buy the presses attempt at saving face; I bet Tiger was so busy screwing different women that he simply didn’t have time to concern himself with such crap. It’s nice to see that when his income is at steak, he finally finds suitable treatment.
