For Papa

He was once strong and rich
Full of life and excitement
Those days faded, like the yellow peel
Of bananas turning brown with time
He was once strong like the inside
Once strong, now mushy, a week old
He is growing weak, body and soul
He gave us everything, all that money could buy

I Know

I know I do not love you properly
I do not greet you at the door with open arms
I do not cover your face with kisses
I do not declare my love daily

I know you want to see me nice and unselfish
But I don’t want to share my entrée
I want to take my time eating the succulent dessert
I want to drink my wine while I smoke a cigarette

Untitled

I stare into the darkness
Hour after hour, eyes fixed
On absolute nothingness
Solitude causes me to weep
Tears drop and I remember
Reasons for my never ending pain
As though held in for ages
I am trembling once again
The loss, the pain, betrayal
Accumulated years of loss
A montage of reasons
Rips free from once failed thought
I stare into the darkest corner
Awaiting a long awaited sign
For I can place the blade
On pale skin slapped with hatred
And it will all be over, done!
Yet if he came into my darkness
Reaching out a metaphoric hand
I may release my sorrow
And be wholesome once again

Untitled

I have written the words on a sheet
Placed them in a canister
Placed them high above my bed
If I die tomorrow
I will have given up reason to weep
For I have shared the words with the universe
Released them from my kind
Written down feelings smushed
In perimeters of my mind
I have felt a sense of longing
Yet am unable to share
and so I write down my longing
And set it high above the realm
Of days filled with love and sorrow
Categorized and filed
Released the damn temptation
To hold all feelings of some kind

Untitled

Don’t look in my direction
For i have ceased to feel
My eyes are a fixed gaze
Lips in a smile
For I have been forced to fear
My flesh may seem beauty
Yet look closely I beg
I have cigarette burns
Whip marks and thorns
I may seem a commodity
Yet I am no one
I hold out for the hour
When I will have a minute
To tie a stocking to a pipe
And end this brutality

Turning Away

Turning away
It has never been harder
To turn away from a life
And never return to the past
Tears in the eyes of my friends
Tears of my cousins
Large enough to fill a river
They are saying good-bye
I am saying hello

They are happy
Grateful and jealous of my new venture
They will never see me again
They are losing a friend

I Don’t Know

I have lived to become a superior thinker
Everything I’ve done was to get me to the beyond
Time is evaporating and I am thinking
Now that it’s arrived
Is this my souls desire?

I have worked for years to acquire intelligence
Searched the globe for a meaning beyond grass
And I have done all that I could
To become excited through a word
I have climbed the stairs
And reached the penthouse
A garden, high sealing, a judge

A Voice

She knows the words but can’t utter a sound
Her throat is dry, her hands in fists
She wants to share a world that rejects her voice
They turn away
Her voice crippled
Assholes copy her poetic thoughts
A woman’s voice is like her beauty
The cover of an entertaining book

If I Could, I Would

I wish I could take your pain
Dismiss the cancer, suffer for you
If I could take the chemo therapy and turn it into sunshine
And you would take in the heat and beauty
Of a once tormented dream

If I were stronger, I would make you
Travel and write your experiences of a far off land
Publish your hopes
Make the cancer seem invisible

A Thought

The writer in me, forlorn
The lover in me, alone
The voice that once spoke, silenced
The hand once held, numb
A friend once there, gone
Security once felt, phony
A truth once told, lonely
A poem once written, corrodes
A mind once full, trite
