Birthdays are a Big Deal! Always have been! It’s a day when my mother and I call in sick. It’s a day when we go to the latest craze of a restaurant. And it is a day when it’s just the two of us shopping and hanging out. It’s always been a tradition, without regard to friends, boyfriends, jobs or family. It has been “our” thing. It hasn’t changed since I got married three years ago, and I don’t plan on allowing it to change for any reason since we’ve lasted this long.
Since my mother and I value our alone time, yet don’t want to disappoint the masses, I’ve committed to throwing a birthday bash every year. This year I got a little more creative and added a theme to the party …I called it the Mad Men 50s. It was a great pleasure to see people dress up wether we were in sync or not.
Because I’m such a fan (addict) of Ulyana Sergeenko, I wanted to dress exactly like her. Let’s just say it’s not easy when one of her dressed retails for 20 thousand euro, but I think I did well enough.
Have you thrown or attended a themed birthday? I’m now a true believer!
One of the most important aspects of getting into shape is creating the right diet. Now the word “diet” stands for eating plan, and not the recent usage of the word signifying weight loss. A diet is something you commit to and follow for better results, yet it is not a three day juicing cleanse, thirty day lemonade mix, or a starvation plan. Actually, in order to lose weight and define the muscle one must eat five times a day: breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner.
With this in mind I have devoted the last few full days to Instagram and the recipes of those who are competing bodybuilders and therefore know what they’re talking about. One such recipe is the breakfast of champions! And let me just say, this breakfast won’t leave you hungry by 10 a.m.
I love the jar idea as I use them for everything. It’s my wine glass, champagne flute, water glass, and oatmeal container.
This recipe makes 2 portions
Mix and cook
1/2 cup of oatmeal
1/2 cup of water
1/3 cup of coconut milk
Place even portions into the jars.
Now top off each jar with the following:
1 tbsp low fat cottage cheese
1 tbsp Sunflower seeds
1 tsp Flax seed (whole)
2 Prunes – diced
1/2 a peach – diced
Place in refrigerator until morning. In the morning add some coconut milk and stir.
Enjoy your breakfast!
Last week while teaching one of my classes, my students and I came across the topic of exercise. As an avid obsessive compulsive devotee of whatever I find to believe in, I immediately began to tell my students about Jillian Michaels and her 30 day shred. After a five minute discussion, I thought it would make a lot more sense to show them a piece of the video, especially since it’s available on YouTube. Somehow we all ended up doing the first ten minutes of the program while laughing our butts off and huffing and puffing.
The next day my body ached. I don’t mean soreness or an uncomfortable feeling, I mean full on pain! The following day it was even worse! While in pain I figured I shouldn’t let this opportunity to continue the trend pass me by, so I downloaded the video onto my wii and got to it. Two days in a row later, I’m truly aching and my head feels like it’s too heavy for my poor body. Did I mention that the workout is a total of 30 minutes?!? It’s insane!
I am however enjoying it and hoping that this may finally be something that I can stick to! Can I get an Amen?!?
